AURA Foresight has been named a Third Place Awardee in the XPRIZE Wildfire Autonomous Wildfire Response competition (Track B), receiving a US$500,000 award. As part of this international consortium, Robotics Cats is proud to have contributed to achieving this major milestone together.
The four-year, US$11 million XPRIZE Wildfire competition challenged global teams to rapidly detect, verify, and respond to wildfires autonomously. At the Track B Finals in the demanding Alaskan wilderness, AURA Foresight successfully demonstrated persistent wildfire detection, meeting the competition’s critical 10-minute detection gate.
A Win-Win International Collaboration
AURA Foresight combined complementary expertise across the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, and Hong Kong to build an integrated wildfire detection and response system:
- AURA (Autonomous Ubiquitous Wildfire Response with Aware Robots), University of Bristol (UK): AI-enabled swarm robotics and autonomous drones for cooperative aerial wildfire detection.
- Fire Foresight / Indicium Dynamics / Taz Drone Solutions (Australia): AI-supported wildfire intelligence, system integration, and drone capabilities.
- Little Place Labs (US): AI-powered satellite and space-based intelligence for high-altitude monitoring.
- Robotics Cats (HK): AI visual wildfire detection using computer vision on existing camera networks.
Together, these technologies created an integrated system connecting space, sky, and ground intelligence to see and understand fire behavior in real time.
From Fire Foresight to AURA Foresight
The journey began with the Fire Foresight team (Indicium Dynamics, Robotics Cats, Taz Drone Solutions, and Little Place Labs), which reached the 2025 semifinals in Tasmania. There, the team validated its logistics, safety, deployment, and system integration in rigorous field operations.
In 2026, AURA and the Fire Foresight teams combined their complementary strengths as AURA Foresight for the Track B Finals in Alaska. The award reflects the leadership, field-test commitment, practical operational work, and shared trust built by both teams throughout the journey.
Why Third Place Matters
The Track B awards highlighted distinct breakthroughs across different stages of the wildfire response cycle:
- Anduril Industries (1st Place, $1.2M + $1M Bonus): Recognized for full-spectrum integration connecting sensors, software, and suppression drones.
- Dryad Networks (2nd Place, $800K): Awarded for its persistent ground sensor mesh paired with autonomous suppression drones.
- AURA Foresight (3rd Place, $500K): Recognized specifically for rapid autonomous detection and meeting the critical 10-minute target.
Each awardee proved a distinct capability—from integrated detection and suppression to ground sensing to rapid aerial detection. For an international team assembled from specialized startups and research institutions, hitting this milestone is a significant accomplishment.
Continuing the Work
While the competition phase has concluded, XPRIZE Wildfire is entering its Impact Phase to translate these field-tested innovations into real-world deployments alongside emergency management agencies.
Robotics Cats is grateful to every partner, firefighter, researcher, and field team member who made this journey possible. Different countries, complementary capabilities, and a shared mission brought us together for one shared mission: building a more wildfire-resilient future.
