FIRE-RES is a four-year EU-funded project (2021-2025) led by the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia. It aims to combat extreme wildfires through 11 Living Labs and 34 innovations, focusing on prevention and community resilience to reduce wildfire impacts and enhance safety by 2030.
The FIRE-RES Open Innovation Challenge (OIC) invites innovators, researchers, and businesses to propose solutions that enhance wildfire management in areas such as prevention, detection, and restoration. By emphasizing themes like risk communication, training, and decision support, the OIC fosters collaboration among stakeholders to create safer communities and resilient landscapes. RoboticsCats is proud to be one of the 50 innovators in the 2024 cohort.
The European Forest Institute (EFI) plays a crucial role in supporting initiatives like FIRE-RES. Established in 1993, EFI is an international organization that enhances forest research and provides science-based information to policymakers across Europe. With around 130 member organizations from 40 countries, EFI promotes sustainable forest management practices and facilitates networking among forestry stakeholders.
The Bioregions Facility, part of EFI, focuses on promoting transregional cooperation for a sustainable forest-based circular bioeconomy. This facility connects various stakeholders to enhance innovation and collaboration in forestry, ensuring that forest resources are utilized sustainably while contributing to economic development.
A highlight of the Bioregions Facility’s efforts is the Forestry Speed Dating event, which serves as a dynamic networking platform for startups and innovators in the forestry sector. This event encourages participants to engage directly with potential partners and investors through rapid discussions, facilitating the exchange of ideas and technologies essential for advancing sustainable forestry practices.
RoboticsCats is excited to join three FIRE-RES OIC innovators – Hephaesnus , Unblur, and Wildflyer at the Forestry Speed Dating: 4th Series on November 20, 2024.
This collaboration presents RoboticsCats with a unique opportunity to showcase LookOut, the world’s first AI wildfire detection software-as-a-service (SaaS), which empowers frontline communities to use their surveillance cameras to detect early-stage wildfires. Andre Cheung, Founder & CEO of RoboticsCats, shared insights during the webinar about three customer segments: homeowners, forestry operations, and nature reserves. He answered audience questions and emphasized the importance of collaboration with industry leaders. Andre also discussed partnerships with AXIS Communications and how RoboticsCats teamed up with three startups in Australia and the US to form the Fire Foresight Team for the four-year $11 million XPRIZE Wildfire global competition. He invited webinar attendees to become partners and pilot customers to work together toward ending all destructive wildfires.
The FIRE-RES OIC and EFI Bioregions Facility’s Forestry Speed Dating events present excellent opportunities for FireTech startups to connect with industry leaders, amplify their impact, and contribute effectively to developing comprehensive solutions for wildfire challenges in Europe and beyond. RoboticsCats is grateful to be part of these vibrant innovation communities!
